A's sign first 18 picks from 2023 MLB Draft
Below is a list of every player drafted by the Athletics.
Each club had until 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 25, to come to terms with its Draft selections. If a player has exhausted his collegiate eligibility, he can sign at any time up until one week prior to the next year’s Draft.

Draft-and-follow picks -- high school and junior college players selected after the 10th round who attend a two-year college after the Draft -- can sign with their selecting teams for up to $250,000 up until a week prior to the following year’s Draft.
Players drafted from Round 11 on do not count against the bonus pools unless their signing bonus exceeds $150,000; any amount over that total will count against the pool.

The A's gained some bonus pool flexibility by signing Wilson under slot value. The son of former Major League All-Star Jack Wilson, Jacob is considered to have the best bat-to-ball skills of any player in this year's Draft class. The 21-year-old's defense also stood out, as Wilson earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors this season at Grand Canyon University.

The younger brother of Josh and Bo Naylor, both former first-round Draft picks who play for the Guardians, Myles' baseball bloodlines played a part in the A's taking him so high in the Draft. The infielder was previously committed to play college ball at Texas Tech University.

Lasko performed well in the Cape Cod League after hitting .314 in three seasons at Rutgers while playing stellar defense in center field. Lasko and the A's agreed to terms on a deal below slot value.
3 (72): Steven Echavarria, RHP, Millburn HS

The A's were very high on Echavarria's upside, and it showed in their willingness to go way above slot value to pull him away from his commitment to the University of Florida. The New Jersey native brings a four-pitch mix that features a fastball that has been clocked as high as 98 mph along with a slider, curveball and low-80s changeup.

It comes as no surprise that the A's had to go over slot value to sign Miller away from his commitment to UCLA. The 6-foot-6 right-hander brings a fastball that can reach up to 96 mph, as well as a hard slider and low-80s changeup.

Coming off a down year at Texas A&M, the A's were able to reach a deal with Dettmer for under slot value. The right-hander stood out in the 2022 College World Series with a fastball that flashed 99 mph, and the A's were drawn to his durability as a starter throughout his college career.

How bonus pools and pick values work
Each choice in the first 10 rounds comes with an assigned value, with the total for a club's selections equaling what it can spend in those rounds without incurring a penalty. If a player taken in the top 10 rounds doesn't sign, his pick's value gets subtracted from his team's pool. Clubs near the top of the Draft often spend less than the assigned value for those choices and use the savings to offer more money to later selections.
Teams that exceed their bonus pool face a penalty. Clubs that outspend their allotment by 0-5 percent pay a 75 percent tax on the overage. At higher thresholds, clubs lose future picks: a first-rounder and a 75 percent tax for surpassing their pool by more than 5 and up to 10 percent; a first- and a second-rounder and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and two first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent.
