White Sox manager Pedro Grifol was joined by third baseman Yoán Moncada during an on-field pregame ceremony in accepting the Bobby Murcer Award from the Baseball Assistance Team. It seemed only fitting Grifol was there for the presentation, considering the first-year manager also is in his first year as part of B.A.T.’s board of directors.
The Padres were presented with the Bobby Murcer Award -- given to the teams that lead each league in donations to the Baseball Assistance Team during its annual Spring Training tour. B.A.T. is dedicated to assisting members of the baseball family who are in need through charitable contributions, including financial grants and health-care resources.
MLBCMA president Lou Cucuzza Jr. (far left) and B.A.T. Executive Director Erik Nilsen (second from the right) were present for the donation presentation prior to the 2023 Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park.
