Aug. 27: RHP called up from Triple-A Reno; RHP  designated for assignment
The D-backs called up Thompson ahead of their series finale against the Reds on Sunday. Thompson, 31, signed a Minor League contract with Arizona on Aug. 19. He logged a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings during his time in Reno and Triple-A Durham (Rays).

Crismatt was DFA’d following his D-backs debut on Saturday, where he allowed the game-winning run on a balk.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

None.

60-day IL

LHP (left elbow inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Henry felt discomfort in his elbow during his July 28 start against the Mariners. Per manager Torey Lovullo, an MRI exam showed no structural damage. Henry’s recovery has not gone as fast as he or the team hoped. As of Aug. 28, Lovullo said Henry was still in the "treatment phase" and had not yet begun a throwing program, though he added that the lefty is "trending in a very good direction."

Arizona is being extra cautious with Henry and moved him to the 60-day IL on Aug. 19, which means he won’t be eligible to come off until the final week of the regular season. If he does return this season, it likely would be as a reliever. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Likely 2024
Jameson was diagnosed with a sprained UCL and elected to try to rehab the injury rather than undergo Tommy John surgery. D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said Jameson is throwing between 60 and 90 feet and is asymptomatic. The next step is to move him to 120 feet before having him throw bullpen sessions.

“Does that mean he steps on the mound for us this year?” Lovullo said. “I don't know what that timeline is. He just has to check some boxes before he gets there.” (Last updated: Aug. 26)

RHP (right shoulder)
Expected return: TBD
Melancon began a throwing program on May 22. As of Aug. 14, manager Torey Lovullo said the veteran right-hander was throwing bullpen sessions each Tuesday and Friday. He was diagnosed with a subscapularis strain, and it’s uncertain whether he will pitch at all for the D-backs in 2023. (Last updated: Aug. 14)

RHP (right lat tendon tear)
Expected return: Likely to miss 2023 season
Martin, who threw a pitch in the fourth inning against the Brewers on March 15 and crumpled to the ground in pain, underwent surgery and is doubtful to return this season.

It’s the latest setback for Martin, who missed most of the 2019 season and all of ‘20, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He’s also been on the injured list each of the last two seasons. Manager Torey Lovullo said on Aug. 14 that the right-hander would begin a throwing program the following week. (Last updated: Aug. 14)

RHP (fractured right ankle)
Expected return: TBD
Adams was struck in the right ankle during an appearance against the Giants on Aug. 1. Adams was forced to leave the game and X-rays taken later that night showed the fracture. He was placed on the 60-day IL on Aug. 2. (Last updated: Aug. 2)
