Aug. 29: OF reinstated from 60-day injured list; OF optioned to Triple-A Sacramento; OF designated for assignment
Haniger returned after missing 64 games with a right forearm fracture he suffered after being struck by an 88.8 mph sinker from right-hander Jack Flaherty on June 13. He went 1-for-17 over five rehab games with Triple-A Sacramento and batted cleanup in his return to action against the Reds on Tuesday night.

Haniger, who joined the Giants on a three-year, $43.5 million deal over the offseason, slashed .230/.281/.372 with four home runs over 40 games prior to the injury. To clear spots for Haniger, the Giants optioned Ramos and designated Johnson, who went 7-for-43 (.163) over 30 games with San Francisco this year.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

OF (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Late August
Yastrzemski faced John Brebbia during live batting practice at Oracle Park and ran the bases on Aug. 27, putting him on track to return during the club's upcoming Aug. 28-30 series against the Reds.

Yastrzemski exited the Giants' 4-3 walk-off win over the Red Sox on July 30 after experiencing tightness in the same hamstring that has sent him to the injured list three times this season. San Francisco was hoping Yastrzemski would be ready to come off the 10-day injured list during its Aug. 14-16 series against Tampa Bay, but he experienced a setback while running the bases and underwent an MRI exam that revealed another Grade 1 left hamstring strain. SS (left forearm strain)
Expected return: Late August/September
Crawford, who has battled various physical issues this year, landed on the injured list on Aug. 20 (retroactive to Aug. 19). He underwent an MRI exam that revealed a "mild" forearm strain, which could sideline him "for a little bit of time," per manager Gabe Kapler. Crawford has resumed light baseball activities, including running and playing catch, and he will start his hitting progression on Aug. 29. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

OF (left oblique strain)
Expected return: Late August/Early September
Pollock has resumed baseball activities and is currently throwing out to 120 feet. He will start taking batting practice in the cage, the team said on Aug. 28. Pollock was acquired from the Mariners along with utility man Mark Mathias at the Trade Deadline, but he went 0-for-6 over five games before suffering a "Grade 1-plus" left oblique strain while making a throw from center field in the Giants' 7-5 loss to the Angels on Aug. 8. The injury was likely to sideline Pollock for three weeks. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

OF (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: September
Conforto is doing light baseball activity and will start hitting off a tee on Aug. 29, manager Gabe Kapler confirmed Aug. 28. Conforto felt his hamstring grab while making a catch in right field in the Giants' 8-6 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Aug. 23. He underwent an MRI exam that revealed a Grade 2 strain, which will likely sideline him for "a couple of weeks, at least," according to manager Gabe Kapler.

Conforto, who will have the ability to opt out of the final year of his two-year, $36 million contract this offseason, has slashed .251/.343/.405 with 15 home runs over 111 games this year. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

RHP (mid-back strain)
Expected return: September
Stripling was scheduled to throw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Aug. 28. The right-hander mentioned he was dealing with some back stiffness following his start vs. Tampa Bay on Aug. 16 and ended up landing on the 15-day injured list three days later. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

60-day IL

RHP (right lat strain)
Expected return: September
Brebbia, who has been out since June 16, was scheduled to throw one inning in a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 30. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

IF (right shoulder strain)
Expected return: 2024
Mathias was initially optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 14, but the move was reversed and he was placed on the IL after he reported soreness in his right shoulder. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 22, effectively ending his regular season. (Last updated: Aug. 22)

RHP (right elbow flexor strain)
Expected return: 2024
Manager Gabe Kapler said DeSclafani felt some "fullness" in his right forearm after throwing his last bullpen session and underwent an MRI exam that revealed a Grade 1 strain. DeSclafani received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Aug. 6 and won't throw for six to eight weeks. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 14, ending his regular season. RHP (right elbow sprain)
Expected return: 2024
Waites was placed on the seven-day Minor League injured list on July 16 before he was transferred to the Major League 60-day IL on July 18. He has a 6.16 ERA in 32 Triple-A appearances (three starts) this season. (Last updated: July 18)

LHP (thoracic outlet syndrome surgery)
Expected return: 2024
Szapucki underwent season-ending surgery to relieve thoracic outlet syndrome on his left side with Dr. Robert Thompson in St. Louis on May 19.

"It's really disappointing," manager Gabe Kapler said. "Part of the reason that this one is especially hard is because it was hard to figure out what his ailments were. He was wrestling with different things at different times. Obviously, the initial rehab shot that we took wasn't working out to his satisfaction.

"We chose this route as the best for right now. Hopefully it works out well and he comes back throwing hard and feeling good." (Last updated: May 19)

C (right rotator cuff strain)
Expected return: 2024
Pérez will miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair the rotator cuff in his right shoulder in Los Angeles on April 12. The veteran backstop started five of the Giants' first seven games behind the plate, but he exited the club's April 7 loss to the Royals after hurting his shoulder while attempting to throw out Kyle Isbel in the sixth inning.

The 34-year-old returned to San Francisco on April 14 to begin his rehab program. (Last updated: April 14)
