LATEST NEWS

Aug. 29: OF/DH (day to day) exits in seventh inning with right hip tightness
Soler, who entered Tuesday with a homer in back-to-back games, exited in the middle of his seventh-inning at-bat in the series opener vs. the Rays. Soler swung through a pitch that hit catcher Christian Bethancourt in the left knee, then he dropped his bat. After speaking with manager Skip Schumaker and the training staff, Soler was replaced in the at-bat by Jesús Sánchez, who grounded out. Soler is day to day, but he said he felt better and hopes he’ll be able to play Wednesday or Thursday.

“That moment when I was hitting, I was feeling some tightness in my hip,” Soler said postgame via team translator Luis Dorante Jr.

“He felt something on the swing,” Schumaker said. “It was 8-2 at the time. I didn't really want to push it. I know he wanted to stay in the game, but I didn't feel like [possibly] losing him for a couple weeks made much sense at that point in the game. So hopefully ... he feels better tomorrow, and we'll see what it looks like.”

Aug. 29: RHP returned from paternity list; RHP  optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville
Soriano, who has been solid for the Marlins out of the bullpen of late (his past four outings have been scoreless), was reinstated from the paternity list prior to the two-game series vs. Tampa Bay.

Nance has not pitched in the Majors yet this season after dealing with a right shoulder strain during Spring Training. He was reinstated from the IL on Wednesday in San Diego, but he was not called on to pitch either then or during the Marlins' three games vs. the Nats.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

RHP (viral infection)
Expected return: Possibly Sept. 2
Cueto threw two innings (39 pitches) of live batting practice pregame at loanDepot park on Aug. 29. Cueto said afterward that he felt good and that because he hadn't faced batters in almost 15 days, his goal was just to get his rhythm back. There's a good chance that Cueto will come off the IL to start on Sept. 2 in Washington.

"I'm very anxious, you know, I want to get out there and pitch [and] help in any way I can," Cueto said via team translator Luis Dorante Jr. "But I feel great, I'm 100% healthy -- I'm ready."

Cueto had been scheduled to start on Aug. 21 against the Padres, but he had felt body aches and other symptoms during the Dodgers series and couldn't recover in time, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said. (Last updated: Aug. 29)

OF (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: TBD
García has begun increasing lower body activities. He was placed on the IL after undergoing an MRI on Aug. 23 to determine the severity of the hamstring strain. García, who missed more than two months with left back tightness this season, landed on the injured list twice with a left hamstring strain in 2022. (Last updated: Aug. 29)

RHP (left hamstring strain, left hip impingement)
Expected return: TBD
Brazoban, who went on the IL on Aug. 14 for a left hamstring strain, underwent an MRI over the weekend of Aug. 18-20, which revealed a left hip impingement. After resting for a few days, he rejoined the team in Miami to continue his rehab after taking some days off to rest. Brazoban had been dealing with a few lower-half issues, but the hamstring affected him mostly during his Aug. 13 outing, when he gave up three runs and issued four walks in 2 2/3 innings. 60-day IL

LHP (right lat strain and left biceps strain)
Expected return:
2024
Rogers has increased to playing catch at 70 feet after he began throwing on Aug. 25. Previously, he had been in a no-throw status since he was scratched from a rehab start on June 10. According to Rogers, he felt and heard a pop while throwing warmup pitches on June 10 before his rehab start. He couldn't lift his arm without pain. Rogers said he partially tore his lat, which has to naturally heal. For now, he can do lower-body lifts, keep his left arm strong and work on right arm range-of-motion exercises.

Rogers last pitched in the Majors on April 19, initially landing on the injured list with a left biceps strain.

"I think if he comes back at some point this year, that's icing on the cake, but really, what's most important is Trevor long term and making sure that he feels comfortable physically, that he feels comfortable in his progression," general manager Kim Ng said. (Last updated: Aug. 29)

RHP (left hip impingement)
Expected return: 2024
Barnes, who has been at home in Connecticut following left hip femoral acetabular impingement surgery on July 25, returned to Miami prior to the Marlins' series vs. the Nationals on Aug. 25 to continue his physical therapy. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 28. The recovery timeline before Barnes can resume baseball activities is three months, meaning his season is likely over, unless the Marlins make a deep postseason run. Barnes slipped on the mound in mid-May against San Francisco, which led to the hip impingement. (Last updated: Aug. 25)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
2024
Bender, who was placed on the 60-day injured list on March 15, is continuing his throwing progression in Jupiter, Fla. Bender underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 30 last year. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
2024
Meyer is progressing with his rehab at home in Minnesota. He saw Dr. Neal ElAttrache on July 24 after expressing that he had soreness in his right elbow, and an MRI revealed no structural damage. Meyer underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 9 after exiting his second MLB start on July 23 with 10 pitches. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

OF (right knee sprain)
Expected return: 2024
Davis, who was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 10 after undergoing surgery on July 6, is walking without a brace and is increasing quad and lower-body exercises. The timetable for a return is three to six months. Davis had an MRI on July 5 that revealed a meniscus injury (not a tear) to his right knee. (Last updated: Aug. 21)

Minor Leagues

RHP (right shoulder surgery)
Expected return
: 2024
Sánchez will throw a live batting practice in Jupiter, Fla., on Aug. 31, the next step in his progression.  After experiencing "slight shoulder soreness" following an extended spring camp game, he threw a 20-pitch session in Jupiter on May 30 without discomfort, but then experienced another setback.

According to general manager Kim Ng, Sánchez threw a bullpen session on Aug. 22 with batters standing in.

"That was progress," Ng said. "We just have to go according to how he's feeling." (Last updated: Aug. 29)
