Aug. 29: RHP recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque; RHP optioned to Triple-A
In an effort to keep their bullpen fresh on a challenging homestand against the Braves and Blue Jays, the Rockies recalled Hollowell on Tuesday and optioned Kauffmann back to Albuquerque. Kauffmann came in for the injured Austin Gomber in Monday’s loss and pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

“Karl pitched [Monday], and Karl's resiliency as a reliever is limited, as he's been a Minor League starter,” manager Bud Black explained. “He'd be down for a couple of days. We need another reinforcement to pick up some innings if needed today.”

It was Kauffmann’s fourth stint with the Rockies this season, and he’s posted a 1-4 record and an 8.42 ERA over 25 2/3 innings in eight games, including three starts. Since his last call-up on Aug. 9th, Kauffmann appeared in two games, tossing four innings. He will start this weekend for Albuquerque.

This is Hollowell’s third stint with Colorado this season, where he’s pitched in 12 games spanning 15 1/3 innings and posted a 1-0 record with a 6.46 ERA, walking seven while striking out 16. In Triple-A this season, he’s maintained a 3.47 ERA in 23 1/3 innings over 19 games, walking 10 and fanning 27 while notching two saves.

Aug. 28: LHP Austin Gomber exits start with back tightness
Gomber left with two outs in the third inning in the series opener against the Braves on Monday due to back tightness, an issue he said he had been dealing with for roughly a month. He gave up two runs in the inning on three hits and a walk and left trailing 2-1 after giving up a two-out triple to Matt Olson. After a 1-2-3 first frame, Gomber gave up a leadoff walk and one-out double in the second but stranded the runners and escaped without damage. Gomber’s velocity on all four of his pitches was down at least 2.6 mph from his season average. The Rockies did not put him through any tests, and he is hopeful about making his next start as scheduled. More >>

Aug. 28: 2B scratched with an illness
Rodgers was scratched from the Rockies' lineup in the series opener against the Braves and replaced at second base by Harold Castro. He missed much of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury in Spring Training and was reinstated on July 31st. He has a hit in 11 of his first 20 games since coming back, but struggled during last week’s six-day road trip, going 2-for-21 in Tampa Bay and Baltimore.

Aug. 27: INF/OF/C Hunter Goodman selected from Triple-A Albuquerque; OF released
A fourth-round pick out of the University of Memphis in 2021, Goodman, 23, earned this opportunity by slashing .371/.418/.903 with nine home runs, six doubles and 33 RBIs over 15 Triple-A games. In 262 Minor League games over three seasons, Goodman has slashed .280/.352/.572.

Goodman started at first base in his Aug. 27 debut against the Orioles.

The switch-hitting Profar, 30, signed with the Rockies for one year and $7.75 million during Spring Training, and he slashed .236/.316/.364 with eight home runs. The release gives Profar time to sign with another team. If he does so before Aug. 31, he will be eligible for the postseason.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

OF/DH (fractured left index finger)
Expected return: TBD
Bryant received a semblance of good news from the results of his X-rays on Aug. 28. He said the fracture had been showing up fully across the finger bone but that it’s just on the edges now.

“Everything's healing, it’s just not healed all the way,” Bryant said on Aug. 29. “I can start taking it out [of the splint] and moving it around a little bit, continue swinging with the finger off the bat, playing catch, ground balls. Hopefully, it doesn't take too much longer to heal.”

He is still swinging off a tee or from a soft toss in the batting cage to avoid the stronger vibrations that come with live BP, and he is positioning himself to be as ready as possible when the X-rays reveal he’s healed enough to get back to playing baseball.

“Then I can just like have a couple of days hitting off the machine or whatever and I’ll be ready to go,” Bryant said. (Last updated: Aug. 29)

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: Sept. 1
Kinley threw another bullpen when the team was in Baltimore and has been progressing smoothly since going on the IL on Aug. 20 (retroactive to Aug. 17). Black said he expects Kinley to be ready to return to the Rockies' bullpen when he’s eligible to come off the IL on Sept. 1. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Anderson made his first injury rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 24 (five hits, three runs in 2 2/3 innings against Oklahoma City). Anderson was originally scheduled for two rehab starts, but manager Bud Black said he will likely make three total before being evaluated for a return. (Last updated: Aug. 26)

60-day IL

RHP (skull fracture)
Expected return: TBD
Feltner’s live batting practice sessions in Scottsdale, Ariz., have gone well enough that the Rockies are moving him on to his first game action since he suffered a fractured skull on May 13 when he was hit by a 92.7 mph comebacker on the mound at Coors Field. Manager Bud Black said Feltner will pitch for High-A Spokane on Wednesday night. If he is able to progress without setbacks, he will be well-positioned to pitch in the Majors again before the end of the season. (Last updated: Aug. 28)

LHP (left elbow)
Expected return
: Out for the season
A return this season is not in the cards for Gilbreath, who underwent surgery in early March, but he is playing catch and throwing out to 90 feet as he continues to meet rehab benchmarks. (Last updated: July 29)

RHP (right elbow sprain)
Expected return: 2024
Senzatela resumed throwing during the final road trip before the All-Star break, but a July 8 bullpen session went poorly. On July 14, manager Bud Black announced that Senzatela will have Tommy John surgery. (Last updated: July 14)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Mid-2024
The Rockies transferred Márquez to the 60-day injured list on May 19. The surgery was performed on May 12 by Dr. Thomas J. Noonan, the club's medical director. Márquez, 28, made four starts this season and went 2-2 with a 4.95 ERA. (Last updated: May 12)
